Temple Site
No site location has been officially announced for the
Cedar City Utah Temple. However, during the weekend of the announcement,
numerous members drove to visit the presumed location for the temple—Beacon
Hill on the north side of Leigh Hill.1 The hill rises high on the west side of
the city, commanding a beautiful view of the mountains to the east.
In September 2012, ground on the hill was subdivided
into three parcels with a large parcel on the west side of South Cove Drive, a
parcel on the east side of the street, and a parcel to the north. The Church
finalized purchase of the 21-acre west-side parcel, located at approximately
300 South Cove Drive, the following November 2nd.
Temple Announcement
On April 6, 2013, during the Saturday morning session
of the 183rd Annual General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced
that a new temple would be constructed in the city of Cedar City, Utah. The
Cedar City Utah Temple will be the seventeenth in Utah, including the Payson
Utah Temple and Provo City Center Temple, which are currently under

Saints in Cedar City currently participate in temple ordinances at the St.
George Utah Temple, located approximately 50 miles to the south. The St. George
temple serves members from 46 stakes in Southern Utah, Eastern Nevada, and
Northern Arizona.
